the reason for using "mamorimasu" was because tomoyo speaks to almost everyone using keigo, regardless of who they are (with the probable exception of sakura) and even if she doesn't with kurogane, the picture was from their first meeting, and so keigo should be used regardless of who you are speaking too.

i'm good but i'm very busy at school. we have exams in two and a half weeks!
i also just competed in a dance competition: we were first in the jazz troupe class ^_^
